Finally! end of the turmoil!well...though i still have art tmr, i don't really have to mug for it lol.
I went to Raffles City yesterday, and i stumbled upon an art gallery, "Ode to art (contempory asian art). Very eye catching, just had to enter. and that was where "don't judge a book by its cover" don't apply. The paintings are really...Asian. there was this huge mao zhe dong painting at the entrance. It was absolutely "whoa!" Its not the normal painting. Its very colourful and just non-painting looking.
There are more mao zhe dongs inside lol alot. From paintings to even scultures. But the sculptures are very cute. Made by "Ren", most of his works are inspired by the cultural revolution. Classified as political pop, Mao is presented in such a light-hearted and humorous way.
Well, photography wasn't allowed. Not even touching, which i failed to abide to. LOL All i got away with was this "an ode to art newsletter" with all the artworks and artist information inside.
Below are some of the paintings' artist that i really like.
First of all! Let's support our own local artists. Tan Kay Nguan. His works are characterised by bold strokes of jewel green undertones, which then moved on to cooler hues of linen-white, warm hues of floral pink and lime greens. His strokes serve like the percussion in an orchestra or the rhythm underlying a music score, while the birds are like the notes in a musical piece that form the soaring melody. Most of his works features cranes poised majestically in mid flight, seemingly dancing in a joyous celebration of life. They seem to leap off the canvas in an affirmation of sheer exhilaration. The space are less defined and pulse with an intense hypnotic energy. Really engaging the viewer.
Vo Ta Hung.Vo allows the viewer to enter his unique imagination where his utopian vision of Vietnam thrives. It intrigues viewers, to fill in the blanks and weave their own stories about each piece. His works are normally devoid of human elements. Even if present, they are dimunitive compared to the vast landscape. His mastery of composition and colour harmonises elements in stunning works that make a colourful impact, yet exhibit tranquility.
Do Duy Tuan. The young girls on his paintings are only flawlessly "hue", but they also have a modern "nature". His works suggest a modern accidental painting style, while they still contain a latent far off oriental cultural consciousness. He believes that his paintings constitute a holy and nice reminiscence area, as in himself there exist no breakdowns or sufferings to retain, instead there are only beautiful past times whre looking back at memories.
Nguyen Thanh Binh. I love his paintings. In art, black and white are not colours, but to him and shown in his art works, they are. Very simple, yet very nice. The elegance of his works moves beyond the form of his subjects and captures their innate grace and eauty that is at once private and at once a collective appreciation of poetic beauty. Than Binh does not see females for their physical forms but is inspired by the sense of each woman, that elusive feminine mystery that can change like the wind. He looks beyond their attire, imagining them nude as women's bodies, be it old,fat or thin, containing secrets. The sense of movement of each woman has when she sits, stands or lie down, whether dancing or playing a sport or working, tells a story about who she is as an individual as well as stories when she is with other people. To Thang Binh, women are always beautiful, from the line of their form to the smoothness of their skin and texture.
Ah, this is my favourite! Dont they just look so vibrant and just brightens up your day? Her strokes of the trees are also very unqiue and nice. the colours are very harmonizing. Phan Thu Trang's naive works are chracteristically Vietnamese. She re-defines the notion of landscapes and stamps it with her trademarks, rounded tree canopies supported by thin trunks, leaves of graduating colours from dark to light as they greet the sun, subtle reflections, consistent strokes delivered by a paletter knife and individual elements stripped to their bare essentials. The smooth areas of bright monotone contrast with the lush, painterly impasto used to define the trees and leaves painted in candy colours that are almost edible.
"And it really makes me wonder..." Do people actually read these stuff that i've posted? lol
