Rain worth putting up with The highlight of the day was Catholic High's,must say 'annual',Basketball Zonal Finals!Up against Queenstown secondary.
Due to the delay at the house meetings,we left late and had to go under the rain...
Fortunately,the match hadn't commenced when we arrived at Toa Payoh Sports Hall.We managed to catch a glimpse of the B Div Girls Match.Pretty clear victory by RGS.
When our guys entered the court,I was quite surprised,I must say,that everybody was pretty enthusiastic.
With the tip-off possession gained by us,we had a good head-start with 11-0 within the first few minutes.Scored mostly by Gurbass.
Nevertheless,we continued to cheer them on,spurring CHS to prevail on.
It was pretty exhilerating to see our classmates playing,which we seldom did in the previous years,with the stronger seniors over-shadowing them.
The suspense and anxiety was at its peak during the final quarter,despite our conspicuous lead of 50 points or so.There was a new goal to the game.It was clear that we've won.But we wanted to break the 100 barrier.
The pressure on the players was intense.You could see it.They were nervous as hell.Having the ball in your hands was a huge burden.
With 92 points with just 1min winding down the clock,it seemed almost impossible.However,they never eased off.
At 98,the class clown zhi yi,Jason Pok hung a scheming smile on his face,as if he was saying "Aiya heck coach,anyhow play lah.Yi bai fen here we come!" With that in mind,he accelerated down the court and earned a foul.
Bounce,bounce,bounce...chop!As the margin grew narrower,the suspense increased,the pressure increased.
Bounce,bounce,bounce...Thud!"ARGHHH!!!",the crowd barked in unison.He missed!!!The score was 99,just one more point,and he missed!
The opponents surged down to the other end of the court,and suddenly,a bad pass cost them a backcourt violation!We were in possession!
Every.single.person.stood up,jumped up!Will we hit 100?
The golden ball landed in the hands of a Sec3.He made a jumpshot.No Good!Argh!
Just when all hopes seemed lost,the underperformed Indian(no racism intended) from Sec 2 Sports class,grabbed the rebound,jumped,put up with some resistance,off the glass,AND SCORED!With just about 10seconds left on the clock.
We did it!We breaked a.hundred.points.!We threw our hands up and gave a manly roar.It was one of the rare events the whole school could rejoice together with.
The high scorer,MVP of the game,and probably the most improved player over the years,goes to Gurbass!He was fantastic today.He must have scored like 30 or more points?lol Keep up the good work,young man.
