What's All The Buzz About? Bees:Menacing, irritating, devious threat always lurking outside my window, which occasionally intrude into my room every now and then, circulating around my ceiling light and hovering around me.What's the use of an intrinsic I'm-yellow-and-black-and-you-better-run warning sign as your body when the victim doesn't even have time to escape its devlish tarsal claws (I wikipedia-ed that,ha-ha)?
This evening, when I was trudging down the stretch of the track, after tormenting my poor,over-strained body with 5-hour Emath and Amath papers and art remedial,I noticed a black, plump bumblebee, with comparatively small wings, whizzing past above my head.I didn't shun it that time(or maybe my brain couldn't be bothered to trigger my reflexes);I was quite amazed in fact.
It was quite a thought-evoking moment. The epitome of the pollination world was no longer just a peevish six-legged freak. It was flying in a straight line past my head,in a moderate speed, still leaving its very essence of presence in its trail. It was as if I could see that furrowed-eyebrow,intense-eyes,so full-of-focus,so full-of-purpose-expression on it's face.
Perhaps it had discovered a nursery full of vibrant-coloured,nectar-seductive flowers in full bloom and wanted to share this joy with the hive.Things are kept simple in the bee-zee world;their delight overshadows the responsibility of their heavy duty imposed by Mother Nature-keeping the lush green characteristic of earth and making sure the ochre, magenta, magnolia, lavender continues to dot it.
There was a big fuss about the declining bee population in America (maybe they're all around my block haha) which will lead to lesser flowers being pollinated which will have detrimental consequences;the juicy, savoury, delectable fruits that we so conveniently pick up from the fruit bowl could all be gone in an instant-like apples.
How can something so small carry such heavy responsibilities on its shoulders? How can something so small have so much purpose? Then what about us?What about the much bigger,efficient-machine,well endowed with unique features, supposedly smartest-living-organism human being?Surely our purpose of existence couldn't just be about social etiquettes, gaining power, expanding your territory at the expense of other's,claiming lives just to prove a point, imprisoning ourselves in schools, acquiring good grades, being career-successful,having a gazillion dollars in our pocket;there has to be a much larger objective,an objective that'll help not just ourselves, but every living organism,to keep the world in perfect balance.
Perhaps it's because we're intrinsicly more intelligent that we're not revealed our purpose;we're left to figure it out on our own.But we're too occupied with the distractions-homework,projects,jobs etc- that comes along with the step down to earth that hinders us.
So the next time you see a bee, appreciate it,for they're the ones that keep the world, and your diet, in balance.
